Recent Projects East Kilbride Corridor East Kilbride Corridor, Client: South Lanarkshire Council, Commissioned 25/3/05. Brief: To provide linked signal control designs for three priority controlled roundabouts (Nerston, Mavor and Whirlies) at the junctions of the A749 at Stewartfield Way, Whirlies By Pass and Whirlies roundabout. The inscribed diameters for these three roundabouts were 60m, 40m and 75m, respectively. The middle roundabout necessitated implementation of an innovative design which formed the subject of the BCC publication ‘Doing it Backwards’ and which was presented at the JCT Symposium, Nottingham, 2005. Bardills Roundabout, Nottingham
Bardills Roundabout, Nottingham, Client Scott Wilson, completed 31/12/05 Brief: To evaluate a proposed signal control design for Bardills Roundabout at the junction of the A52 / B6003, Nottingham, and advise any design changes necessary to achieve a within capacity solution. Our innovative solution at this roundabout was to divert the ‘troublesome’ right-turn movement from the A52(W) through the roundabout itself. This work formed the basis of our ‘Cutting Corners at Bardills’ paper presented jointly with Scott Wilson at the 2006 JCT Signal Symposium. West London Tram
West London Tram, Client Transport for London, completed March 2007. Brief: To assemble Do Tram Transyt Network Models for the Ealing Broadway, North Circular, Colharbour, Hayes Bridge, Askew Road and Wolverton sections of the 22km run from Uxbridge to Shepherds Bush. The work included significant redesign at major junctions to achieve within capacity solutions with Tram. With BCC as project lead, this work was conducted in association with JCT Consultancy. Welcome Bay Roundabouts, Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand Welcome Bay Roundabouts, Tauranga, New Zealand, Client Transit, New Zealand Government, ongoing. Brief: To devise traffic control solutions for the highly congested Welcome Bay corridor and for Brookfield intersection, Tauranga, North island. BCC were invited over to New Zealand last November to view various congestion hotspots in North Island at Tauranga, Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton, to advise and present possible solutions and to introduce New Zealand engineers to the design concepts of signal controlling roundabouts. BCC are currently aiding New Zealand Consultants to iimplement final designs derived by BCC ( in association with JCT Consultancy) for Welcome Bay and Brookfield, Tauranga.
